ROSE CENTIFOLIA
Rose centifolia brings to mind a full, soft bouquet of petals, with sweetness that can suggest honey and a greener edge that keeps the floral impression from feeling purely sugary. Some materials also reveal a lightly peppery detail. These facets offer a useful way to explore rose fragrances: look for the balance between rounded flower, green freshness and warm sweetness.
The botanical name is Rosa × centifolia, also called the cabbage rose or rose de mai. Its flowers are grown for perfumery in the Grasse region, where May harvesting is documented, but the name does not guarantee French origin: Egyptian centifolia absolute is also available. An absolute is a solvent-extracted material. A centifolia note in a perfume may refer to the floral impression rather than confirm that this extract is present; the finished scent depends on the whole composition.
