Notre Dame Candle

Frédéric Malle’s time as an altar boy, which was, unsurprisingly, short-lived, left him with the poignant memory of church incense. In a masterful rendition of the vapor’s dry warmth, Bruno Jovanovic recreates the atmosphere of evening mass in a Parisian church.

Frédéric Malle’s candles are both beautiful decorative objects and powerful fragrance diffusers. The wax, specifically suited to each fragrance oil, is hand-poured around a wick that burns with a clean and defined flame. The jar has a minimalistic color dichotomy, white on the outside and red on the inside, in matte porcelain. Lit, these candles transform a room into a place of warmth and comfort: your own safe-haven.

As Edmond Roudnitska’s only student, Pierre Bourdon was informed early on by the philosophy that perfumes should be created as works of art. With this in mind, Pierre went on to revolutionize perfume trends in the 1980s with his men’s perfume “Cool Water” for Davidoff. That was when he met Frédéric Malle. Having realized that they shared the same vision of perfume making, the two became like family to one another. It was obvious to Frédéric, when he created Editions de Parfums, that Pierre should compose its first perfume, Iris Poudre.
