Brilliant. Lavish. Refined. Velvet Orchid is a fragrance that lives in the black orchid world of glamorous mystique, sharing its aura yet standing apart with its own compelling identity. It pushes the DNA of the original Black Orchid into new territory, evolving hidden facets of the original’s olfactive structure with extravagant ingredients to reveal even more brilliance, femininity, and attractive force.
In Velvet Orchid, the daring and dramatic floral signature of black orchid is the inspiration for a warm and enveloping fragrance that is lavished with shimmering freshness, dramatic petals, honey, and rum. The woods and spices of the original scent recede and a contrasting veil of petally floralcy casts a shadow of ultra-femininity throughout. A new character emerges: one that pulls rather than pushes; and that is more harmonious than mysterious—elegantly refined and polished. Velvet Orchid has an addicting beauty that seduces with a fluid and textured touch. It is the rippling black silk next to black orchid’s sleek marble. Velvet Orchid masterfully embellishes and evolves the Black Orchid legacy.

As the third generation of a family of perfumers (not to mention the grandson of Albert Camus), Antoine Maisondieu’s youthful rebellion was forced to take an unusual form: he went to law school. But the pull of the fragrance world was too powerful, and ultimately Antoine abandoned the law for an internship in perfumery that became a job creating scents for Givaudan, where he was responsible for mass market hits such as Armani Code and Burberry Brit. In the niche world, he has collaborated heavily with Comme des Garcons, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Etat Libre d’Orange.
A truly international perfumer, Shyamala Maisondieu was born in Malaysia and educated in London, before discovering a talent for fragrance while living in Hong Kong. She then went on to study at Givaudan Perfumery School, first in Grasse but then in Argenteuil, where she met her future husband, the perfumer Antoine Maisondieu. As a Givaudan perfumer, she has worked for brands from Etat Libre d”Orange to Tom Ford to Lanvin. Her global perspective strongly inspires her creativity, and she strives to bring international flair to her fragrances.
Calice Becker was born in France to a pre-revolution Russian immigrant family, from whom she received a love of and reverence for fragrance, art, and traditional craftsmanship. Blessed from an early age with a keen sense of smell and the good taste to accompany it, she entered the largest perfumery school in Grasse, the Roure-Bertrand-Dupont (now the Givaudin Perfumery School). Entering Quest International upon graduation, Becker found herself under the tutelage of the famous Francoise Caron, who encouraged Becker to be a pioneer of a new generation of female noses and creators. Becker responded by creating J’Adore Christian Dior, one of the world’s most beloved and bestselling perfumes.
Yann Vasnier’s upbringing was straightforward enough for someone who would quickly become one of the world’s most sought-after perfumers; born and raised in the countryside of Brittany, he fell in love with the scents of the outdoors through his family’s large, immaculately maintained gardens. Through trips to the Divine house in Dinard, his love of scent became a love of perfume, and he began to focus his schoolwork on passing the perfumer’s exam. Eventually, he was hired by Quest International (Givaudan) and admitted to the prestigious ISIPC, where he trained under the legendary Francoise Caron.
