While its sister scent Molecule 02 is built around the single note of ambroxan (the manmade equivalent of costly natural ambergris), Escentric 02 blends the note with vetiver and the cruelty-free musk imposter muscone. Add just a touch of orris, elderflower extract and the sunny, jasmine-like feel of hedione and it’s light, refreshing and yes, even brisk fragrance that sparkles and enchants from beginning to end. It’s the kind of brisk you think of when smelling a freshly poured gin and tonic over lots and lots of ice, only Escentric has a fascinating mineral-like finish that amps things up to super spectacular. It’s a wear anytime, go anywhere type of scent with a very relaxed, unassuming nature…utterly at ease, totally uncomplicated and easy going, we find ourselves reaching for it over and over when everything else just seems not quite right that day. This one’s too rich for the office, that one’s too citrusy today, I’m not in a patchouli mood…ahhh, here’s the perfect one! Escentric 02 fits the bill every time.

Born in Germany and trained at Haarmann & Riemer (now Symrise), Geza’s iconoclastic disdain for the average and willingness to work with big ideas and cutting-edge synthetic ingredients has placed him at the center of some of the 21st century’s most dynamic fragrances, from cult favorites like Boudicca Wode and Paper Passion, to the breathtaking opulence of the Clive Christian line, to the international sensation that is his bestselling Escentric Molecules brand. Never one to set boundaries, Geza’s passions often find him collaborating with artists across the creative spectrum to create madcap wonders like the Smeller (built with German artist Wolfgang Georgsdorf), a piano-like scent instrument that allows the user to play their own “aromascapes.” Sometimes outrageous, always outspoken, and truly unique, Geza Schoen is living proof that the future of niche perfume is bright.
Born out of its founder Geza Schoen’s love for Iso E Super, a strange, cedar-ish and sometimes velvety aroma-molecule that doesn’t exist in nature, Escentric Molecules has pursued a unique and rebellious vision of fragrance since it released its first pair of soon-to-be-cult-favourite Iso E-intense perfumes in 2006. Escentric Molecules’ fragrances are neither classical nor straightforwardly pretty. Instead, the molecules at their hearts (chiefly Iso but others, like Javanol, too) are designed to meld, in the peculiar way of synthetic notes, with the wearer’s natural pheromones.
