The Early Years

Francis Kurkdjian was born in Grasse, France, the birthplace of the modern perfume industry. Growing up surrounded by the fragrant gardens of jasmine, rose, and lavender that made Grasse famous, Kurkdjian knew from a young age that he wanted to dedicate his life to the art of perfumery.

After completing his studies at the prestigious ISIPCA, Kurkdjian began his career at some of the world’s most renowned perfume houses, including Dior and Quest International. It was during his time at Takasago that Kurkdjian’s talent was recognized, and he was given the opportunity to create his first solo fragrance that would change the industry forever.

Le Male for Jean Paul Gaultier, a fragrance that blended traditional masculine and feminine notes, became an instant classic and marked the beginning of Kurkdjian’s meteoric rise to fame.

Since the success of Le Male, Kurkdjian has gone on to create a multitude of iconic fragrances for some of the world’s most luxurious brands, including Narciso Rodriguez for Her, Carven Le Parfum, and the legendary Baccarat Rouge 540 for his own fragrance house.
